What will the new, state-of-the-art SNF Hospitals in Komotini, Thessaloniki, and Sparta be like? They’ll have exclusively single and double treatment rooms, surrounded by therapeutic gardens accessible to patients and their families and developed in order to secure LEED Platinum Certification to become the most energy-efficient hospitals in their class.
About a year before the three new SNF public hospitals are completed and handed over to the Greek state—and as part of SNF Nostos 2026, which celebrates 30 years of SNF grantmaking, the Foundation is opening the construction sites of the new SNF General Hospital of Komotini, the SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki, and the new SNF General Hospital of Sparta to the public for a few days. The hospitals, whose construction is at an advanced stage and is scheduled for completion by 2027, are expected to serve as model public hospitals for the residents of their respective regions.

To participate in the guided tours, you must fill out a registration form.
Registration opens on June 4 and will remain open until June 19. Those interested should select one of the predetermined visiting times available for each day.

Each guided tour will be limited to 25 people. Due to the expected high demand, a waiting list will be maintained for those who are unable to secure a spot during the first registration phase so that they can be notified in a timely manner should spots become available. Visits will be organized in accordance with all applicable safety regulations governing access to construction sites.

The design, construction, and outfitting of the SNF General Hospital of Komotini, the SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki, and the SNF General Hospital of Sparta are part of SNF’s Global Health Initiative (GHI), whose total budget of more than $1 billion is supported in full by SNF. The development of the three state-of-the-art new SNF hospitals reflects a vision shared by SNF and internationally renowned architect Renzo Piano for the creation of model hospitals for the future, based on a deeply human-centric approach and incorporating pioneering environmental standards. Upon completion of the construction and outfitting process, the three new SNF hospitals will be delivered to the Greek state for immediate operation within the framework of the National Health System.
