The Athens Medical Association celebrated its 100th anniversary at the Athens Conservatoire in late October, with Greek Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis, Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias, and Archbishop Ieronymos of Greece in attendance, along with members of the cabinet, opposition, and academic medical community. Awards were presented to organizations and individuals for their contributions to the field of medicine in Greece.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) was recognized for its systematic efforts to strengthen the health sector in general and in Greece specifically, notably the design, construction, and outfitting of three new public hospitals in Komotini, Thessaloniki, and Sparta as part of our Global Health Initiative (GHI). George Agouridis, a member of SNF’s Board of Directors and its Senior Legal Advisor, received the award on behalf of the Foundation and also gave a short acceptance speech.
Earlier this year, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) conferred the title of doctor honoris causa in the Departments of Medicine and Nursing upon SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos and awarded SNF the title of Grand Benefactor of the University of Athens, in recognition of contributions in those fields.
