In keeping with our commitment to open communication with the local communities as construction of the SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki, the new SNF General Hospital of Komotini, and the new SNF General Hospital of Sparta continues, SNF held yet another series of public town hall discussions in the three regions.

The first of the three open meetings took place on Monday, December 2, at the Municipal Gymnasium of Filyro, followed by the meetings in Komotini at the REX Theater on December 3 and in Sparta at the Georgios and Chrysavgi Sainopoulou Cultural Center on December 9. The speaker panels included representatives from SNF, the Greek Ministry of Health, project manager Hill International, and project contractor AVAX Group.

Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistocleous gave remarks at the meetings, saying, "The progress on construction of the new hospitals in Komotini, Thessaloniki, and Sparta, as part of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s (SNF) Global Health Initiative (GHI), is an important step in upgrading public health services in our country. These projects, designed with a focus on sustainability, cutting-edge technology, and the delivery of top-notch care, promise to transform health care in local communities and across the country. I express my gratitude to SNF and its Co-President Mr. Andreas Dracopoulos for this initiative, which is a model of societal contribution, and I would like to underscore once again its importance for the future of health care in Greece."

Following the conclusion of the town hall meetings, SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos said, "The fact that this is the eighth round of town hall discussions demonstrates as clearly as possible our commitment to maintaining open dialogue with local communities throughout the development of the hospitals. It is a dialogue that has been essentially constructive, as some of the issues and ideas raised for discussion have been already incorporated into the design of the projects. We are very pleased with the cooperation with both the local communities and the Greek public authorities, and we remain optimistic that the projects will continue to progress smoothly until their completion and delivery to the community about two years from today."

The meetings were attended by local political and religious leaders, representatives and administrators from local health districts, as well as health professionals. Residents of all three regions were present and actively participated in the discussions, expressing eagerness for the projects to reach completion.

The grant for the design, construction, and outfitting of the three new state-of-the-art public SNF hospitals is part of SNF’s billion-dollar-plus Global Health Initiative (GHI). It reflects a vision shared between SNF and internationally renowned architect Renzo Piano, to create model hospitals for the future built following an intrinsically human-centric approach to high environmental standards and incorporating cutting-edge technology. Upon completion of the construction and outfitting process, the three new SNF hospitals will be handed over to the Greek state for immediate operation within the framework of the National Health System.
