An SNF grant made as part of its Global Health Initiative (GHI) seeks to help make sure that those medical professionals with a firsthand view of how the medical system can fall short for specific communities and populations have leadership skills that can help them begin to address these gaps.
The grant supports the Health and Opportunity Leadership Institute at the Colin Powell School at City College of New York, which provides City University of New York undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in health with enrichment opportunities in the field. These include experiential learning opportunities like internships, academic courses in topics like bioethics and economics, and leadership development resources like mentorship.
The aim of the program is to help the next generation of medical professionals use the levers of change in the health care system in service of an aim shared by the GHI: to expand access to quality care for all.
