Casey House in Toronto was Canada’s first dedicated facility providing care for people with HIV/AIDS. Amid rising HIV cases in the country, the specialized hospital continues to take a whole-person approach that offers social and psychological support in addition to medical care.
An SNF grant made as part of its Global Health initiative (GHI) went toward the one-on-one peer support program at Casey House, designed to benefit both patients and their peer mentors. Patients get support from people with lived experience with HIV; peers gain employment experience, training relevant to healthcare careers, and steady income.
