As part of its Global Health Initiative (GHI), the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is supporting the procurement of two anesthesia workstations in the two operating rooms at Ippokrateion General Hospital of Kos, the second most populous island in Eastern Greece’s Dodecanese chain.

Covering the secondary and tertiary medical needs of the island’s more than 40,000 residents, as well as those of patients referred from neighboring islands, the hospital sees a significant surge in patient numbers during the high tourism season.

Anesthesia towers, as the workstations are known, are a fundamental piece of equipment that are used on a daily basis in the operating room. The grant will enable Ippokrateion staff to reach the full potential of their capacity to serve patients by providing reliable, state-of-the-art equipment that is essential for safe surgeries. The new equipment helps contribute to the hospital’s overall readiness to handle as much as possible in-house and avoid needing to send patients to the mainland for care.
