SNF is supporting Ecolhuma in addressing the mental health crisis affecting students and teachers in France by empowering teachers to manage stress and promote student well-being, creating a more supportive and equitable school environment.

With 80% of teachers in France reporting emotional exhaustion and 1 in 5 students experiencing high stress, addressing this crisis is urgent, especially as the French government has declared mental health a “great national cause” for 2025 amidst a shortage of psychiatric professionals. Ecolhuma’s approach centers on the often-overlooked needs of teachers, who play a critical role in student well-being.

Building on the success of EtrePROF.fr, a digital platform for teachers supported previously by SNF, this initiative expands Ecolhuma’s reach through a combination of digital and in-person activities. The program equips teachers with stress-reducing practices through accessible digital tools, expert interviews, and workshops; helps prevent burnout by fostering peer support networks and mentorship programs; develops students’ socio-emotional skills to build self-confidence and resilience; and addresses bullying and cyberbullying with specialized training and response strategies.

By the end of 2026, the initiative aims to support 20,000 teachers in implementing stress-reducing practices, assist 30,000 teachers in managing stress, and provide guidance to 400 school leaders. These efforts seek to improve the wellbeing of teachers and students across France, as well as the professional practice of the former.

SNF’s support enables Ecolhuma to expand its mental health programs, ensuring a lasting impact, especially in underserved schools. By investing in teachers, this initiative lays the foundation for a healthier, more inclusive education system.
