SNF is partnering with Breathe Hellas to support the development of a national mental health awareness campaign that aims to reach young people across Greece. The campaign’s goal is to reduce stigma around conversations about mental health, normalize seeking help, and emphasize that mental health is as important as physical health.
Established in 2020, Breathe Hellas advocates for mental health issues in Greece to promote self-care and foster emotionally healthier communities. The national awareness campaign supported as part of SNF’s Global Health Initiative (GHI) builds on an effort begun by Breathe Hellas in October 2022, which, under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Health, mobilized well-known athletes and other public figures to raise awareness about the importance of taking care of our mental health and destigmatizing the idea of seeking support.
For the SNF-supported campaign, Breathe Hellas will be partnering with the University Mental Health Research Institute (EPIPSY) to undertake research into perceptions of mental health. The results will inform the messaging of the national awareness campaign, and the Hellenic Olympic Committee and professional athletes will assist the organization in amplifying the campaign’s messaging to reach as many young people as possible. The campaign is expected to launch in May 2024, coinciding with Mental Health Awareness Month, and to continue with additional efforts to spread its messaging through digital and other media throughout the remainder of the year.
